Beckman High senior Tristan Dupont announced Sunday he will continue his education and baseball career at Cal Lutheran.

Dupont, a lefthander, helped Beckman start out 6-2 this season before athletics were suspended because of the coronoavirus crisis.

“I committed to Cal Lutheran yesterday after receiving my financial package from them and seeing it was all going to work out,” Dupont told OC Sports Zone on Sunday. “The deciding factor was mainly finding a place that was fully committed to having a strong team and a strong team morale as well and I just wanted to be able to play for a team that really wanted to be there and they all wanted to play.”

Dupont said he will major in business.

“It covers a lot of spots and I can go in any direction from there,” he said.

Dupont said he expects pitch in both relief and as a starter.

Dupont has been a steady pitcher at Beckman and had started a couple games this season.

“I’m happy for him,” said Coach Kevin Lavalle. “In this time of uncertainty, it’s great to have some good news. I think he found a place where he gets that college experience and he’s still able to come home on weekends if he needs to.

“They are getting a really good lefty that has all the tools to become a great college pitcher. He knows the next level is going to demand that he gets better, but that’s really what Tristan has done since he was a freshman here. I think he was lined up for a chance to be the PCL pitcher of the year. He has that type of stuff.”
