University’s new football coach Scott Meyer talks to his team after a workout.
University’s football team wrapped up spring practice under Coach Scott Meyer with the annual Blue-White game at University.
The Blue squad won, 8-6.
“It was a great way for us to wrap up training,” said Meyer. “The enthusiasm was really good. We got 12 practices in and everything is brand new.
“We have a long way to go in the summer but I think we’re off to a good start.”
Meyer said it’s tough to evaluate his team based on an intra-squad game.
“When we get all our guys together on offense and defense, we like the guys we have,” he said.
“It’s always a good way to wrap up the spring. It’s hard for the linemen without pads to really block anybody. I tell them they want to try and protect everybody. But it’s always fun.”

University began summer workouts on June 11. The sessions were scheduled to include 7-on-7 games against other schools. Weight-lifting and conditioning was also a high priority, Meyer said.
University opens the season hosting Laguna Hills on Friday, Aug. 24.
