When Cypress High pitcher Cameron Repetti walked to the mound to start the second inning of the Centurions’ CIF Division I baseball game with Yucaipa Friday he paused for a moment to examine a souvenir he had acquired moments earlier.

He was looking at a scrape on the inside of his arm, all part of one inning where he had retired the three batters he faced in the top of the inning and then singled in a run, stole a base and scored a run as the Centurions started quickly and then had the resiliency to repel a couple of modest Thunderbird threats for a 5-1 victory.
The triumph advances Cypress to the Division I semifinals, its opponent to be determined by the outcome of La Mirada-Mira Costa game that was postponed, by rain, until Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
“It was a great job, a great team effort,” Cypress coach John Weber said after the Centurions, ranked among the Top 5 teams in the nation, had improved to 30-3, putting them within two wins of a season-long question to win the their third CIF title and their first since 2013.
If you had to pick a star of the game, Repetti would certainly get the nod, but the Centurions got key contributions from others as well.
Repetti, a Cal State Fullerton commit, allowed four hits in a complete game victory, singled twice, scored twice and drove in a run.
Right fielder Noah Carter had a terrific catch of a long fly ball and also singled in Cypress’ final two runs and Tyler Chaffee had a run-scoring double.
