The first games of the newly-aligned Tango League are this week, all part of the two-year releaguing cycle in Orange County that has a number of teams moving up, according to Ray Elliott, Athletic Director at El Dorado and chairman of the Orange County Football Conference.
The reconfigurations were made based on competitive equity in Orange County during the last two-year cycle and last for two seasons.
There are nine teams in the Tango League, the lowest ranked among the Orange County teams. There will be four games each week with one team receiving a bye.
On Thursday, Loara plays at Bolsa Grande.
On Friday, Savanna is at Century, Santa Ana Valley meets Santiago at Garden Grove and La Quinta faces Godinez at Santa Ana Valley.
Magnolia, the other team in the league, has a bye this week.
The Zeta League, which in the past two years was the lowest rated league, does not exist any longer. It used to be a five team league consisting of Saddleback, Godinez, Savanna, Magnolia and Century.
The Alpha League is the top rated league in Orange County and is now a six-team powerhouse that includes Edison, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, San Juan Hills and Yorba Linda.
Coach Rick Curtis Crean Lutheran squad moves up to the second toughest OC league, the Bravo League. He will be matched up against his son, Sean Curtis, coach at Capo Valley, in one of the games at home.
Connor McBride’s Woodbridge Warriors, defending CIF Division 13 champions, move up a league to the Lambda League.
Defending CIF Division 8 champion Beckman moves up to the Foxtrot League. Segerstrom jumps to the Foxtrot League which also includes Irvine.
Peter Abe’s Portola Bulldogs are in the Kappa League.
Saddleback, which reached the semifinal round of the CIF Division 13 playoffs and was in the Zeta League last year, moves up a couple leagues to the Sigma League.
Capo Valley Christian is not in an OC league. The Eagles are in the Ironwood League with five teams outside of Orange County.
The Trinity League alignment remains the same and once again includes Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, JSerra, St. John Bosco, Servite and Orange Lutheran.
The first week for the rest of the leagues other than the Tango League is in week six.
