Segerstrom football players from past years returned to the school Thursday evening for the annual 7-on-7 alumni game.
“We had had a great turnout,” said Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “Every year we look forward to seeing who is going to be able to make it out. This year we had several guys who dominated during their time on the field at Segerstrom come out and play from as far back as 2014.
“Each class was represented by legitimate playmakers, which makes the game that much more fun. It’s always great to see these guys come back out and just have a good time competing with their Jaguar family.”
Former players inluded Emerson Saldana (2019), Jacob Rodriguez (2020), Benji Muniz (2021), Cristian Galaviz (2022), MJ Leuma (2023), Mokey Leuma (2024) and Jason Salazar (2025).
“Our most recent graduating class came out in big numbers with guys like Ayden Morales, Roman Saucedo, Gabriel Vergara, Andrew Abarca, Anthony Gomez, Anthony Rojas, Jordan Acosta, Elio Catrejon, and Luis Prado playing for the alumni team.
“All in all, it was a great turn out and very competitive as the game came down to the last snap when our current quarterback Noah Martinez connected with Eli Lopez for the game winning touchdown on the last play of the game.”
Segerstrom and other football teams in Orange County with week zero games start the fall acclimation period on Monday.
The Jaguars open the season hosting Bishop Montgomery Friday, Aug. 21.
“We will be in helmets for the first three days, followed by two days in helmets and shoulder pads. Once we take care of these acclimation days, we will be able to go full pads on Saturday, which is the day all our guys have circled on their calendar,” Tagaloa said.
As part of the Orange County releaging cycle for the next two years, Segerstrom will be in the Foxtrot League along with Beckman, El Dorado, El Toro, Irvine and Orange.
Segerstrom opens league play hosting Irvine on Friday, Aug. 2.
“The competition in the Foxtrot League is definitely going to be a step up from last season, but we are excited about the challenge, Tagaloa said.
