Irvine baseball coach Gabriel Cota celebrated his 100th career victory Thursday night when the Vaqueros defeated Woodbridge 6-1 at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.

His brother David Cota, also an Irvine assistant coach, said players and assistants “celebrated Gabe’s 100th career win as a head coach (many more wins included as an assistant coach). This is his eighth season as head coach and we are all very proud of his accomplishment. He’s a wonderful father, leader and of course head coach for our young men and families at our school.”

Gabriel Cota played at Irvine from 2001 to 2005 and later became an assistant coach with the Vaqueros before being named head coach.

With the victory Thursday night, Irvine (7-6) moved into a four-way tie for second place in the Pacific Coast League. The Vaqueros open the Ryan Lemmon Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. vs. San Dimas in the Great Park Stadium.
