Orange County boys basketball highlights, final scores for Friday, Jan. 30

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE TOURNEY

UNIVERSITY 72, LAGUNA BEACH 53: University visited Laguna Beach for the second time this season and this time the Trojans avenged the previous league loss with a league tournament victory. The Breakers opened up a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

After a quick timeout, the Trojans went on a 20-10 run to lead 20-17 after the first period. University coupled that with a 23-8 margin in the second quarter to lead 43-25 at halftime and they never looked back. The Trojans forced 27 turnovers.

University (7-18, 2-5) will play in the fifth place game Tuesday at Woodbridge vs. Northwood.

Junior center Abdallah Shami finished with his 15th double double of the season with 28 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Sophomore guard Yousuf Chalan tallied 16 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman guard Dixon Cheng scored eight points. Junior guard Nader Chalan contributed six points and five steals.

Laguna Beach (7-20, 2-5) will play in the seventh place game Tuesday vs. St. Margaret’s.

Senior Brody Azadian was the top Breaker scorer with 25 points. Sophomore swingman Max Scheckter scored eight points. Sophomore forward/center Max Osborne and junior wing Owen Fouhy each scored seven points.

PORTOLA 75, SAGE HILL 67: The Bulldogs, who have already clinched a CIF playoff berth, won their 15th game in a row Friday night. Portola (22-5) was led by Max Paulsen with 24 points and Lucas Ip with 18 points. Portola will face Woodbridge in the PCL tournament championship Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Woodbridge.

CRESTVIEW LEAGUE

CREAN LUTHERAN 78, FOOTHILL 65: On senior night, the Saints, coached by Austin Loeb, captured the outright league title at home. Chadrack Mpoyi had 24 points and Matteo Hernandez and Bryce Coleman 11 points each to lead the Saints.

TRINITY LEAGUE

SANTA MARGARITA 102, ORANGE LUTHERAN 81: The Eagles (24-3, 4-1) were led by Kaiden Bailey, who had 31 points and six 3-pointers and four assists. Drew Anderson had 30 points and 11 rebounds, Brayden Kyman 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds, Rodney Westmoreland nine points and four assists, Markee White nine points and Jacob Sears seven points, eight rebounds and six assists.

JSerra 67, Mater Dei 66

SOUTH COAST LEAGUE

TESORO 60, DANA HILLS 52: The Titans (24-3, 7-0) clinched the league title with the victory. Max Draper had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Dean Mika 11 points to lead Coach Steve Garrett’s team.

SAN CLEMENTE 59, SAN JUAN HILLS 56: The Tritons (17-10, 6-1) were led by Bryan Blake with 19 points. Desi Gutierrez had 17 points and Braden Baggs 13 points and eight rebounds. San Juan Hills (14-13, 4-4) was led by Rocco Jensen who had 18 points and Kellen Owens who had 14 points.

SAN JOAQUIN LEAGUE

PACIFICA CHRISTIAN 68, CAPO VALLEY CHRISTIAN 52: Michael Noel had 15 points and four assists, Donavan Hogan 14 points and 13 rebounds, Joaquin Rigdon 11 points and Ian Escobar nine points to lead Pacifica Christian.

GROVE LEAGUE

ORANGE 54, RANCHO ALAMITOS 50: Down by 11 points, Orange outscored Rancho Alamitos 22-10 in the final quarter. The Panthers (7-20, 2-5) were led by Sebastian Nunez whyo had 21 points and Vic Ceja who had 11 points.
