University High School’s football team stopped previously undefeated Los Amigos four times on fourth down including three times in the red zone (twice inside the 5-yard line) to win at home 23-7 Thursday night in a non-league game.

Birthday boy Jake Rabold accounted for all of the Trojans’ points with three field goals, two touchdown receptions and two extra points. He had an interception for good measure.

He also punted twice for a total of 73 yards, had five kickoffs for 280 yards and made three tackles.

Uni (1-1) opened the scoring with a 40-yard first quarter field goal. Los Amigos countered with a 21-yard scoring strike from southpaw sophomore quarterback Mytrell Smith to junior wide receiver Alexis Marcelo-Chamu.

With 2:08 left in the half, the Trojans drove 51 yards on four passes (three to Rabold) culminating in a 39-yard field goal as time expired to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Near the end of the third quarter, Dylan Elmer hit Rabold on a 26-yard scoring strike to give the Trojans a 13-7 lead. With just under nine minutes to go in the game on a fourth and three, senior Jacob Najar stopped senior running back inside the one yard line.

Najar had 10 tackles, including three for loss. Two plays later Elmer passed to Rabold for a 99-yard touchdown pass. Rabold capped the scoring with a 44-yard field goal late in the game for the final margin.

Elmer had a hand in all the scoring as the passer or the holder on all the scores. The junior was 12 for 21 for 243 yards. Rabold caught five of those for 157 yards. Junior Cruz McMullens hauled in five for 52 yards. Lucca Clouthier rushed 12 times for 67 yards.

For Los Amigos (2-1), Smith was 14-of-26 for 203 yards in the air adding 35 yards on 14 carries on the ground. Senior wideout Amarie Maddox had four receptions for 130 yards. Senior running back Kevin Centeno was limited to 61 yards on 16 runs.
