Former Crean Lutheran High School co-head coach Rachael Ziemann has been named the new varsity girls basketball coach at JSerra High School, athletic officials said in a release.
Ziemann has served as the girls basketball co-head coach with her sister Bianca Ziemann. Under the Ziemann’s, the Saints won more than 100 games, two Empire League titles and had three straight appearances in the quarterfinal round or further in the CIF playoffs.
“I am honored and blessed to be named the head coach of the JSerra Catholic High School girls
basketball program,” Ziemann said in a statement. “This opportunity means so much to me, and I am deeply committed to building a Christ-like culture of excellence, hard work and integrity both on and off the court.”
Ziemann was a four-year standout basketball and track athlete at Edison High School and helped the Chargers win the Sunset League two years in a row. She later earned a Division 1 scholarship to Loyola Marymount University, where she was a two-time team captain and helped the Lions to the WCC Conference Championship and WCC Tournament championships.
She is also the co-founder and president of the Flames Basketball Club.
“Coach Ziemann’s fit on the basketball court as a coach and mentor is matched by her stated vision and
background of developing resilient and confident young women in a Christ-centered environment based
on the foundation of growth-mindset, teamwork, and sportsmanship,” JSerra AD Chris Ledyard said.
JSerra was 18-12 overall and 4-2 in the Trinity League and advanced into the second round of the CIF playoffs last season.
The school and previous coach Chyanne Butler “officially parted ways in February.,” according to a JSerra athletic official.
