Robert “Dash” Smith led the receiving corps in yardage (93 yards, three catches and one TD.
All of receivers got into the action. Ben Byszewski, Caleb Bey, and Drew Deese had TD receptions from Jones, while Billy Balck was on the receiving end of freshman Dylan D’Epifanio’s first career touchdown pass, according to Saints Coach Rick Curtis.
“Turnovers were the name of the game for the defense as Mason McCullough tipped a pass into the waiting hands of Anthony Jones in the end zone for the season’s first defensive touchdown,” Curtis said. “McCullough also recovered a fumble and Drew Deese had an interception from his cornerback position. Carter Jones and Taurian Nash led the defense in total tackles with nine apiece while the defensive front put constant pressure and hurried the Warrior quarterback 12 times in the contest.
“Connor Stephens and the return teams continued to shine for the Saints. Stephens was 7 for 7 on PAT’s along with two touchbacks and deep kickoffs that pinned the Warriors into poor field position. Javari Nash was outstanding on kickoffs and Caleb Bey (99 yards on two returns) and Dash Smith (28 yards, one return) put the Saints in great field position throughout the contest.”
Crean Lutheran plays its next two games at home, Friday, Sept. 6 vs. Liberty and Friday, Sept. 13 vs. San Juan Hills.
