Placentia’s Bronco 12-and-under all-stars opened the West Zone championships Thursday night in Moreno Valley with a 19-0 victory over Orem, Utah.
The team, coached by Brandon Smith, moves on to the second round Friday night to face the Maui, Hawaii team which defeated Simi Valley 10-8 Thursday.
Placentia, which had 15 hits, broke the game open scoring eight runs in the third inning. The game was called after four innings.
Everyone in the Placentia lineup contributed offensively.
Jayden Stilabower had a hit, RBI and a run scored, Grady Klovstad was 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored, Andrew Churney was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and two RBI, Tyler Fritz was 2 for 2 with three RBI and a run scored, Dean Clewett was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored, Caden Smith was 1 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Aiden Marchetta was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI, Tristan Gerken was 1 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored, Ben Hansen had an RBI and three runs scored and Jacob Wang was 2 for 2 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Churney and Wang had doubles and Fritz had a triple.
Placentia pitchers Gerken, Wang and Marchetta allowed just one hit between them in the four innings.
