Western High School football coach Dan Davidson was honored this week as the Los Angeles Chargers Orange County coach of the week.
The Western football program will receive a $1,000 check from the Chargers.
“I am so honored to be recognized as the Orange County Coach of the Week from the Los Angeles Chargers,” said Davidson, now in his eighth season coaching the Pioneers.
“The Chargers do such an outstanding job of reaching out to youth and high school football programs all across Southern California. Although I am the one being recognized, this is more of a reflection of my coaching staff, students, faculty and surrounding community.
“Western High School is a special place to be a part of and unless you get to witness it daily and be what it takes to be a Pioneer, you just do not comprehend how close of a family we truly are.
“We are already excited about using the $1,000 for our homecoming game. We do not want this to be only a football game, but an event that our Link Crew, ASB, cheerleaders, homecoming court and our entire student body can be proud of.”
Davidson led Western to the CIF Division 11 title in 2018.
“My favorite part of coaching is to witness the growth these young men accomplish each and every year,” Davidson said. “Bringing our school together through athletics will always be a special part of what I am all about.”
Davidson also coached the North team in the Orange County all-star game in 2020.
Western, 5-2 overall and 3-0 atop the Orange League standings, hosts Century Friday for its homecoming game.
