Marina’s football team made the most of its first appearance in the CIF finals, defeating Muir of Pasadena 18-9 in the Division 11 championship game at Westminster Friday night.

Coach Jeff Turley’s team led 8-7 and increased its lead in the second half.
“It was a great defensive game,” Turley said. “We won the turnover battle and made fewer mistakes which won the game. That is what a championship is supposed to be about.
“It is such an honor to coach these young men.”
Pharoah Rush led the Vikings offense rushing for 63 yards on 18 carries. Brantt Riederich had 18 carries for 55 yards and Dane Brenton had three catches for 50 yards, one TD and a two-point conversion.
Quarterback Gavin Del Toro completed 7 of 12 passes for 64 yards for one touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Eric Church had a 30-yard field goal.
Muir (11-3) was making its first appearance in the CIF finals in 30 years. Marina improved its record to 12-2.
