A number of school districts in Orange County are making plans allowing for the return of high school athletic camps, including football camps under a number of safety guidelines such as social distancing.

But Santa Ana Unified School District does not have a plan for the camps to start. Some camps in Orange County high school districts began in July before they were postponed for health concerns. However, Santa Ana Unified athletic camps never started.

High school sports has been shut down since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On-line instruction began this week for the Santa Ana district. High schools include Santa Ana, Santa Ana Valley, Godinez, Saddleback, Century and Segerstrom.

“We are continuing to not allow any in-person activities for any students, including sports camps,” said Fermin Leal, chief communications officer for the Santa Ana Unified Schoool District. “That situation could change in coming weeks, but there is still no timeline.”

CIF officials moved the start of most fall sports to December 2020 with football scheduled to start in January 2021. However, state and local officials need to give final approval in order for the revised plan to take place.
