Northwood High’s scholar athletes were honored Monday night at the Pacific Coast League Student Athlete Awards Ceremony at Portola High School.
The female scholar athletes were:
-Paige Condy, who earned four varsity letters in volleyball and one in water polo. Condy will study animal science at UC Davis in the fall.
-Sofia Howard, who earned two varsity lacrosse letters as a starting attack player. She earned a coach’s award and was named team captain all four years. She will double major in political science and economics at UC Berkeley in the fall.
-Kaylee Nguyen, who earned five varsity letters in soccer and track. She helped lead the girls soccer team to the PCL title in her senior year and was co-captain and named first team all-league. She will study psychology and English at UC Berkeley in the fall and play for the soccer team.
-Micaela O’Connell, who earned eight varsity letters in cross country and track and field. She participated in post season competition six times, including the CIF finals in cross country her sophomore and junior year and making it to prelims her senior year. She has committed to continue her studies and athletics at UC Santa Barbara in the fall.
Northwood’s male scholar athletes were:
-Nadar Ibrahim, who earned three varsity letters in his time at Northwood: two in basketball and one in football and participated in the CIF post season competition three times. He plans to study computer science at either UC San Diego or UC Irvine in the fall.
-Mark Kim,. who earned five varsity letters in cross country and track and field. In his senior year, he led the cross country team to the preliminary championships where they went on to earn a spot in the finals. He will study biology at UC Irvine in the fall.
-Matt Kim, who earned three varsity letters in volleyball and was a varsity starter for the past three years. He was captain of the squad this past season. He plans on playing Division III volleyball at UC Santa Cruz where he will study film.
-Parker Mallough, who was a three-time scholar athlete recipient and varsity letter winner in swimming. His performances in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly contributed to three consecutive team PCL titles. He plans to continue his athletic and academic career at Grinnell College.
Northwood’s scholar athletes of the year were Kaylee Nguyen and Matt Kim and the sportsmanship winners were Chloe Trak and Cody David.
