HEMET 3, SEGERSTROM 1: The fourth-seeded Jaguars, making their first appearance in the semifinals, fell in the Division 4 semifinals Thursday at Hemet.
Bella Martinez belted her 11th home run of the season in the second inning to give Segerstrom (22-3) a 1-0 lead. Hemet countered with a hit a home run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.
The Jaguars then committed an error in the fifth nning which allowed the batter to get into scoring position. That was followed up by a base hit that put Hemet ahead 2-1.
Hemet had a home run in the sixth inning over the the right field fence to make it 3-1. Segerstrom had lots of chances to score, but was never able to key a key to hit to advance the runners, according to Coach Yvonne Alonzo.
But Alonzo was proud of the team’s season.
“The Lady Jags finish an amazing season at 22-3, won their seventh Golden West League title, and for the first time in school history advanced to the CIF semifinals,” she said. “I’m very proud of this year’s accomplishments, considering all that these players went through with the ordeal of COVID lockdowns.”
Martinez has been selected to play in the Orange County all-star game Monday at Deanna Manning Stadium, Alonzo added.
