FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: Tustin vs. Foothill among big games

This is the Gauntlet Trophy, which football and Tustin football teams used to play for.

We’ve got another big night of Friday night football games on OC Sports Zone.

We encourage our Orange County readers to submit photos of the games they are at. We love to see submitted pictures of fans, or action shots of players. Please email to timburt@ocsportszone.com and we will publish. Make sure and include proper identification.

Also, please check our scoreboard ticker at the top of our website, which has scores from a number of key games. We update it throughout the night for our readers.

Among the games tonight we will be covering with stories and photos is Foothill vs. Tustin at Tustin’s Northrup Field. This is usually a very good, intense game between two crosstown rivals.

When you go to a game, it seems like the whole city shuts down and fills the stadium.

The teams used to play for the Gauntlet Trophy. That trophy has been lost or misplaced, we’re told. So there will be a new trophy, the Crosstown Trophy.

We also wonder if Beckman is in the running for that one.

Beckman is annually in the running for the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy which goes to the city football champion in Irvine.

Tustin is the home team this year. Foothill leads the series 29-24-2. Tustin won last year 48-10.

We’ve also got full coverage of University vs. Laguna Hills in Scott Meyer’s first game as University coach and of Irvine’s first game vs. Rancho Buena Vista.

Plus more highlights!

The fun is just beginning, so please check back tonight on OC Sports Zone!
