Cypress 14-game winning streak ends; Yorba Linda and Northwood capture tournament victories

Cypress boys basketball team had its 14-game winning streak end in Las Vegas Friday night as Tampa Catholic of Flordia held on for a 62-61 victory.

“We couldn’t get to 15. We played well, missed a couple of shots we normally make, but we struggled from the free throw line (6 of 12),” said Cypress Coach Derek Mitchell.

“Kobe Knox (younger brother of Kevin Knox from ny Knicks) went for 21 points,” Mitchell said.

Jared Brown scored 20 points, Clifton Patterson had 12 points and Anthony Tello 11 points for Cypress.

The Centurions (15-2) face Foothill from Henderson, Nev., ranked No. 9 in Nevada by Max Preps on Saturday.

Yorba Linda 51, Westminster 49: Yorba Linda’s boys basketball team defeated Westminster 51-49 in a consolation round game of the Century Elks Tournament Friday at Century.

Yorba Linda (11-6) was led by Cory Knutson, who scored 23 points and Connor Platt, who had 12 points.

Joshua Lee scored 18 points and Isaiah Lee had 11 points to lead Westminster (5-9).

At the Tustin Classic:

Northwood 61, WJ Mount: The Timberwolves won their second in a row at the Tustin Classic, defeating WJ Mount 61-44 Friday afternoon. Amit Flint had 18 points and Shandon Sharifi and Seth Locke had 16 points each to lead the Timberwolves.
